Overview of Program
The purpose of Adult Basic Education programs is to help adults improve their academic and communication skills related to their work and family lives. Adult Basic Education is offered free of charge and covers a wide range of adult learner abilities. Classes are designed for adults to learn at their own pace, guided by classroom teachers who are trained to teach adults. Classes are offered all year long, program enrollment takes place at specified intervals. Distance Learning is also available for students who are unable to attend class in person.
What We Offer
Adult Basic Education: Classes in reading, writing and math help adults succeed at work and at home. Students make use of computers to learn digital skills. Students with a high school diploma can also enroll in class to brush up on their basic skills.
HiSET Preparation: Students who did not finish high school take class to prepare in the five skill areas of the HiSET: Writing, Reading, Social Studies, Science and Math. Students can take an Official Practice Test to gauge readiness, then take the official HiSET test at Second Start to achieve their High School Equivalency Certificate.
