Student Assistance Program

Counseling Services

Youth who become students at Second Start’s Alternative High School have a long history of things not working out- school, relationships with others, and their approach to problems. Most are overwhelmed by and confused as to why the methods they’ve used to approach life have not yet worked. The counseling services at SSAHS offer students compassion, understanding, and emotional support. At the same time, however, students are challenged to face dilemas, become problem solvers, take responsibility for their part in given situations, and learn how to manage their emotions. Only when students gain awareness of themselves and take ownership for missteps will they be open and prepared to embrace a new way of being. Counseling services are open to all students who attend SSAHS. Participation is voluntary and services are confidential.
